Product

The CGW is an airborne communications gateway designed for multi-link aggregation on aircraft. It integrates two built-in 5G cellular modems, a 900 MHz long-range RF digital radio, and support for up to two external Starlink terminals — providing high-reliability communications over long distances for aircraft operations.

The unit is built for operational reliability. Redundant power inputs accept 12 to 32V, ensuring continuous operation if a primary power source is interrupted — a critical requirement for airborne command and control.

The CGW is housed in a precision-machined anodized aluminum enclosure, built for the mechanical and environmental demands of flight. It is qualified to DO-160G Cat U2 (Helicopter) — an aviation environmental standard covering vibration, temperature shock, humidity, and electromagnetic interference — and operates across a -45 to +70°C temperature range.

Customer story

Rotor Technologies engaged Mobiwire to jointly develop the second-generation RPX Communications Gateway, upgrading the platform from 4G to 5G with eSIM support and global carrier band coverage.

Mobiwire led the 5G modem integration alongside eSIM provisioning and global carrier band validation. The hardware platform was redesigned for production scale, drawing on Mobiwire’s automotive and aerospace supply chain to source components with the reliability and environmental tolerance required for airborne operation.

Environmental qualification to DO-160G Cat U2 (Helicopter) and FCC certification were obtained to meet regulatory requirements for the U.S. market. Quality control systems were established to support ongoing production at scale.
